Building Memory

Es un compendio de entrevistas de mujeres que han construido y siguen construyendo esa memoria social que no está en los libros. Vicky, Sor Lucía, Manolita, Mila, Cecilia, Carmen, Ana, Ángeles, Adelma y una persona no binaria que se llama Alana, son mujeres y personas que a partir de experiencias personales han decidido tomar las riendas de sus vidas y buscar alternativas o soluciones para sí mismas y para otras muchas mujeres vulnerables. Personas que han encontrado el apoyo que ellas no encontraron en su día. Muchas se encontraron solas y sin un lugar al que poder acudir para pedir ayuda o, simplemente, para sentirse escuchadas y comprendidas. Un acto de solidaridad, de humildad desinteresada, que construye esa memoria social que mueve montañas y que se ha ido consolidando con el tiempo y con mucho esfuerzo.
Son memoria viva. Personas referentes, ejemplos de vida de que sí se pueden cambiar cosas en esta sociedad. Por lo menos para romper tabúes y abrir otros caminos a personas y familias enteras que deambulan desconcertadas y sin rumbo.
Como periodista social con más de 25 años de experiencia descubriendo realidades invisibles, por el camino me he ido encontrando con estas mujeres a las que admiro por su capacidad de resiliencia, pero sobre todo por la fuerza que desprenden iniciando procesos sociales que han transformado sus propias realidades y la de personas como ellas. Mujeres luchadoras que no buscan protagonismo y que han sabido afrontar el presente o el pasado para dejar de ser víctimas o para lograr derechos y vivir un futuro sin condiciones. Ellas han decidido ser libres y autónomas para decidir cómo vivir sus vidas. Y, ahora, mirando hacia atrás, pueden hablar de sus experiencias desde el orgullo del camino recorrido y de lo mucho que han logrado, con una reflexión sosegada y llena de verdad. Muchas de estas mujeres ya son mayores y sus testimonios merecen ser compartidos porque todo nace de algún lugar y tiene un porqué que merece ser contado en primera persona. Mujeres que son referentes, mujeres que han construido memoria.

Cheik Faye, Norma Cruz, Hans Landauer, Rachel Parrente… tras cada uno de estos nombres se encuentra una historia de superación y lucha en pro de los Derechos Humanos que, sin embargo, nunca ha llegado a ser oída.
Their voices have been silenced by totalitarian regimes or, simply, by the passing of the years, despite the fact that their testimonies have a lot to contribute because thanks to them we can know the hell of hundreds of young people who abandon African lands in cayuco, the of women murdered with impunity in Guatemala or that of the survivors of the Nazi concentration camps.
He tenido el honor de dar voz a las historias no contadas en mi libro, al igual que lo hice en el programa de Radio Nacional de España ‘Voces Silenciadas’. Este trabajo me llevó a ganar el XXIV Premio Internacional de Periodismo Rey de España en la categoría de radio. Darles la palabra a aquellos que raramente son escuchados ha sido no solo un compromiso profesional, sino también una pasión personal que me ha guiado a lo largo de mi carrera.

"Letters for Freedom" began without really knowing what path it could take. Intuition and curiosity led me to the Seville 1 penitentiary center with the help of Solidarios para el Desarrollo, which has been carrying out cultural activities for years dedicated to the leisure of prisoners inside the prison.
It was an exciting discovery to discover the world that exists around a card in prison and how the power of the cards can help these people to change, to relate to the outside world, to fall in love, to reconcile with a loved one, to stop a bloody mutiny or even achieving freedom.
This book is born from the stories and letters of the people who participate in the Solidarity for Development workshop at the Sevilla 1 Penitentiary Center.

Their voices have been silenced by totalitarian regimes or, simply, by the passing of the years, despite the fact that their testimonies have a lot to contribute because thanks to them we can know the hell of hundreds of young people who abandon African lands in cayuco, the of women murdered with impunity in Guatemala or that of the survivors of the Nazi concentration camps.
I have had the honor of giving voice to untold stories in my book, just as I did in the Spanish National Radio program 'Voces Silenciadas'. This work led me to win the XXIV King of Spain International Journalism Award in the radio category. Giving a voice to those who are rarely heard has been not only a professional commitment, but also a personal passion that has guided me throughout my career.
